Arthritis in the hands and Systemic lupus erythematosus
Has received a grant for Wini through the Bornholm Regional Municipality
In a day full of challenges, Wini has proven to be a life-changing companion for a woman named Sanne. Below you can read how Wini has improved her quality of life and made her see opportunities rather than limitations.
Everyday challenges with arthritis in the hands
Sanne lives with arthritis in her hands, which has resulted in frequent pain. In addition to the pain associated with her arthritis, Sanne also has systemic lupus erythematosus. This disease is a chronic, recurring inflammatory disease of the connective tissue, which can cause symptoms from many organ systems such as the skin, musculoskeletal system, blood vessels and kidneys. Many people get inflammation in the joints, where the disease moves from joint to joint. These chronic diseases have meant that Sanne has had difficulty, for example, brushing her teeth, eating meals and putting her mobile phone to charge.
Meals in particular have caused her problems, and she has felt very limited in staying at home on a daily basis to get the personal help she needs.
Life with Wini without limits
Since Sanne received Wini, she has used the grip to its full potential. She uses the grip at home for everyday tasks, but also always has it in her bag when she's on the go, so she doesn't feel limited to staying at home.
Sanne mentions that Wini helps her brush her teeth, clean her ears and even a narrow object like a toothpick, she can use Wini for. She also uses Wini to put on makeup, the toilet brush, eat her breakfast and other meals. With Wini's help, she has also been able to find her more creative side. Wini helps her write with a pen, draw, use the paper cutter and kitchen utensils for cooking.
Sanne has also surprised us by showing us that Wini can assist with charging phones and computers. It can even be used to build with Lego.
Sanne is lucky enough to have been granted a set with two handles, so she can have one in the bathroom and one in the kitchen. It also means she has a handle for both the knife and fork when she eats.
A multifunctional companion
In our conversation with Sanne, she elaborates on her favorite features of Wini. She emphasizes that it brings her joy that she doesn't have to have several different aids in her kitchen drawer. She greatly appreciates that Wini is multifunctional. She also points out that it lasts for several days and that she can move and clean Wini herself. She describes that it gives her great value that she can easily keep it hygienic.
Joy of life and freedom
Finally, we are very curious to hear if Wini has really made a difference for her. Has it improved her quality of life and created the joy of life that we want to be able to give her and other patients?
She explains that she doesn't feel tied to staying at home, and is no longer dependent on help from others in the same way. Sanne experiences less pain in her hands, and she feels she can do much more. She is more independent and self-reliant, and this has reduced the everyday frustrations she used to have.
She is happy to be able to help her husband more, and thus she feels more equality in her marriage.
Finally, she says that she can now better manage more things in a day. Everyday tasks don't feel like projects, but are more manageable.
In short, Sanne has become happier in everyday life, has gained more energy and mental strength – also socially, after she got Wini. This means that she gets out more with others, because she can easily carry Wini in her bag, as it doesn't take up much space.
“Would you recommend Wini to others?” – is our last question.
“Yes, absolutely. The quality of life is improved.”
